My trainer recommended that after your dog is comfortable with the trick, you can downgrade your "treats" to their regular kibble. Like, only put 3/4 of what they usually eat in their bowl, and put the rest in their treat bag to use throughout the day, so they're still getting the same amount of food, but still get their reward.
