Mary Kathlyn Wagner, born on May 12, 1918, was a natural born seller. In school, she outsold other children in school-related ticket events. In Girl Scouts it was common for her to sell more cookies than any of her colleagues.

As an adult, she was a single mother of three children. She worked part time selling while attending college. She worked for World Gift, making a record-breaking three in-home appointments a day. Eventually, she became National Training Director where she trained men and women to sell.

After years of watching male colleagues get promoted ahead of her, and at twice her salary, she decided to retire from the business.

After one month she began formulating a How-To Career Book for women, which soon turned into a marketing plan for a “dream company”. She then (www.mlmlegal.com) realized that she needed to start her own company, and did, and called it “Beauty by Mary Kay”.
